Intelligent Disaster management Workshop, Querétaro, Mexico, Feb 23-27 2015

This workshop is focused on the design, construction and operation of intelligent systems for achieving situational awareness during large-scale disasters. It will touch on techniques such as robotics, multi-agent systems, crowdsourcing and human computer interaction. The workshop aims to match the multi-disciplinary nature of disaster management by bringing together specialists from volcanology, seismology, disaster response (Mexican Red Cross and Civil Protection), as well as computer scientists and roboticists.

The ultimate goal of the workshop is to serve as a springboard for a long-term collaboration between Mexican and UK universities and companies interested in disaster response

The workshop will be held in Querétaro, Mexico from February 23 to 27, 2015 and is funded by the Researcher Links scheme offered within the Newton Fund, the British Council and CONACyT. The workshop is organized by Dr. Rocio Aldeco (Tecnológico de Monterrey, Querétaro, Mexico) and Dr. Sarvapali D. Ramchurn (University of Southampton, UK) in collaboration with the Orchid project from the UK (www.orchid.ac.uk), an international initiative that aims to study the fundamentals of human-agent systems (i.e., systems involving humans, robots, and software agents).

The workshop will have contributions from leading researchers, industry and organisations specialising in disaster prevention and management. We are currently inviting Early Career Researchers (PhD students and Postdoctoral Researchers) from the UK or Mexico to apply to attend this workshop by sending extended abstracts following the instructions below. All travel and accommodation expenses will be covered by the Newton Researcher Links programme.
